With the festive season behind us, many small business owners are taking stock of the last 12 months and looking ahead to the next 12. Now is a great time to set some positive intentions for the coming year and start some new habits that can seriously help your business.
Have a vision
Now’s a great time to get super clear about what you want to achieve out of the next 12 months. Whether it’s a new business premises, a company car, an exotic holiday or taking on an employee – find out what gets you excited about your business and put it on a vision board so that you can visualise this becoming a reality.
Define success
Yes, all business owners want to succeed – but it’s important to be very specific about what success means to you and your business. Some people judge success on how many days off they can take, others on their profits and balance sheets. If your idea of success is different to everyone else’s then that’s ok! Success is a mindset so work out what it means to you and how you can measure it.
Set out actionable steps
Once you have an idea of the vision you want to achieve and how you will measure your success, set out clear, actionable steps that you need to take in order to achieve these things. So, if you want to get a company car and make £40,000, break down how many sales you will need to make in order for those things to happen. Then set a target for each month so that you have an idea of what you need to do to achieve your goals.
Monitor your progress
It’s all very well setting goals and targets, but if you don’t monitor whether you’re achieving them then it will be very difficult to stick to your plan. Have a system in place that allows you to check your progress so that you can identify where you need to pick up the slack.
Small businesses require a lot of hard work and dedication, but by making positive intentions for the coming year, you can help your business to succeed.
